BP is for beginners, BRO

BP is for beginners, BRO

Yesterday there was a new post made by an experienced real estate investor whose sole purpose was to take a dump on new investors for no reason other than to feed a delicate ego.

So I felt it appropriate to say my thanks to Biggerpockets for teaching me so much about Real estate when I knew absolutely nothing, and with the massive influx of new members lately, I want to express my opinion that BP is mainly for beginners.

I started out like every investor here does: stupid and driven by ego, but AMBITIOUS to learn and get started. Now I own a bunch of rentals, an apartment building, I've made a ton of great real life friends here, I was on the podcast, and my business is growing faster every day. So if you're new, know that spending time here has nearly a guaranteed return on investment.

It's also OK TO BE NEW. There are a lot of experienced people who contribute heavily here but the overwhelming majority are new people, and that's who the site is geared towards helping. New investors should feel the most empowered to participate and and post, this is the place to get guidance and there ZERO experience or knowledge requirement to post. I think it's counterproductive to the community to create a situation where the experienced people are laughing at new people, it's also sleazy and embarrassing.

If you're new, it's ok to post things that might sound stupid. I say embarrassing and stupid things all the time, and I would CRINGE to go through my early post history, but that's ok because we get better as we go, and that's the whole point. Some people will might try to make you feel bad about it, that's just part of human nature, and it's not representative of what BP is trying to do.

Overall, this is a magical place. So thank you BP, if this place hadn't make me feel ok to be a stupid beginner I would have never been able to grow to where I am now.

Yup. All of us are in different points in our journey. Every investor started with their first purchase. I actually use to feel the pressure to do what some other "big" investors were doing.  Then I became more comfortable with what I was doing, and was like I think Ill just do what I like, and not let these other dudes pressure me into doing what they are doing.  The majority of landlords in the country are small mom and pop investors with 1-3 rentals. Nothing wrong with that. Those people are likely going to end up being millionaires when they retire.

@Stephan Kraus ultimate Bro move to tell someone not to do something in an Internet forum. Nice memes. It doesn't lash out against anyone, that's snowflake mentality. Sorry that you want pats on the back and someone to hold your hand and tell you that you are pretty, but that's not how you get far in real estate. You cut the BS and focus on what you can do better and if someone has sarcastically tell you, so be it. There's no cover of anything. I am still here responding, I don't get anything for it, and all the points are correct and based on daily interactions. Every single person who reacts unfavorably to a post about a fictitious Bro is just deciding that the post is about them. Thanks, Bro.

I'll risk it and be the contrarian. :-)

I personally think some people read too deep into Jonathan's thread about "Bro" investors. To me, it was obvious he wasn't talking about all new investors. He was talking about the ones that clearly are full of hot air and don't take the time to actually learn things, but instead take needless risks and/or action without research. There typically tends to be an immaturity about them as well.

Also, to be fair regarding the "no silly questions" statement, we BP moderators even have a canned PM message to send after closing down newly-created threads asking "Do I need a LLC?" because it is asked so often. This is because some people don't stop and consider that they could search for their question. Rather, they choose to be lazy and just ask the question and wait for answers to come in. So, yeah, even BP mods are looking for "silly questions" to shut down. ;-)

While I think most people do not intend to be mean to others, I think anyone would be lying to say they truly would have faith in the future success of someone who is not displaying proactive and generally intelligent qualities.

@Nicole A. thank you for being a voice of reason. It's weird when the post is open-ended and everyone acts offended. You can only be offended if 1. you think these things don't happen and 2. you think I was talking to you. The response based wants to be validated for being here, that's why they respond off-topic. So many responses are "everyone is new sometimes." Of course, no one said they weren't. But even new people can do research and take the time to offer as much as they expect back.

Even if half of the responses are crack backs, the amount of responses are because it's hitting a hot button on both sides. The ones who are offended need to step back and think about why they took it personally when it wasn't written to them and why they run through personal attacks directly on me and spend time fabricating that I want business from it. It's a forum topic on a real estate investment site, that is all. It's ludicrous. But that is so Bro.

If YOU are a Pro, i`d rather be a Bro, Bro :)

You must have a lot of free time on your hands (probably because all the "retail buyers and novice investors ruined your business"). You're responses consist of mocking people who disagree with you and buzzword BS bingo (which is just as cringeworthy as your belief, everyone on here wants an older gentleman like you to be "patting them and telling them they're pretty")

Now that being said, i dont even disagree with you on certain key points, and dont think your post was meant against new investors in general, but the way you try to bring your points across just sound like an angry old white dude yelling at the damn kids to get of his lawn. You seem to be smart enough NOT to have to act that way, so at this point im assuming you're just trolling- and as we all know, you're not supposed to feed the trolls! I`m taking your advice at face value here and cut your BS, in the only language you seem to speak:

    ok boomer :)

Nicole, you know I love a contrarian ;)

My intent here was really just to provide alternative position for the sake of it, which is kinda my thing. The original thread just made for an easy retort. Having both discussions bring in a variety of perspectives and reply's is a perfect outcome as far as I'm concerned.

Also, as many have noted the other thread was satire, sure, but at best it was poorly constructed with no underlying attempt at productive help. It's like hitting someone in the face then claiming "it's just a prank bro". So whatever the motive for Mr. Greene to be here, which to me seemed malicious under the false veil of sarcasm, I felt it appropriate to remind the thousands of people who see these threads and don't comment, that my motive is to help. If you post something stupid I'll call you stupid, and I do that all the time, but then I try to help.

It's not like that thread is blocked or anything, just providing diversity of voice.

And while on the topic of theatrics, I don't care about my hair either, it's just a bit. Sometimes I do use it to make @Russell Brazil jealous. That said, I've been dying to get a better glimpse of what I think might be an epic mane on @Andrew Postell

@Stephan Kraus if you look back, I only crack back on those that come at me, bro. The fact that you take it so seriously to get invested in calling me names and old (at 48) and insulting what you don't know about my business all makes the points over and over again. To continue to think I want something from it is so ludicrous, it's just all you have. You spend all this time making comments about me and literally have nothing productive to add. If you don't like the way it was phrased or disagree with actual content, add some value. 90-95% of the crack back posts against me were personal which again, proves the point.

@Alexander Felice you are hilarious, bro. I responded right away, you ignored that. And then you talk about me in more posts. I am right here, it's no big deal. It's a thread. What you did is create an echo chamber so you could get more people to like you by sucking up to BP and glad-handing all the new investors a way to fight against a post. You seem like the type of guy who would post something similar and laugh about it so it's a little weird, especially with how you came at me personally for you to sit back and say you are just here to bring everyone together and sing songs around the campfire. The post wasn't poorly constructed at all because the construction doesn't matter. You just don't agree with the delivery, but the thing no Bros have done in the OP or here is actually use facts from what people here write to dispute it. The fact is, it's all true. You just feel ********* because you think it's somehow about you and not an ironic commentary on the blowholes of Bro culture. If you think the post was malicious, I'm worried.

@Stephan Kraus continuing to prove the point of the OP over and over. I will say it again. I literally could not have scripted a more appropriate response base to what the post was about. The comedy routine continues.

@Nicole A. I appreciate it and get it, but if you track both posts, all I am doing is responding to what comes at me or about me, nothing more. I find it strange that I should be subjected to multiple personal attacks over and over, but my sarcasm is a bit much. It was a sarcastic post, more than half of the people probably find it funny. It didn't @ anyone. The whole thing is an abject comedy routine and continues to prove the point.

Seems like BP has a new strategy to increase the number of pageviews.  It's working even better then letting newbies banter on with over-asked questions.

So to get this straight, you get offended about getting called "boomer" (which is a generational term not coined by me), but call me bro (which you clearly defined as a negative in your OP). You don`t provide ANY value in your post, that I did not even comment on (which is the point @Alexander Felice is making with this one) and insist that you are "still here responding" and "dont want something from it", BUT mock me for responding (with a meme, to a meme posted, not to you) and demand I "add something productive" instead of just calling your BS out? Sorry you can't victoriously fortnite-dance in your living room after giving a defeating retort to my comment.. and then finishing off with what you mocked in a previous post and "Tell someone on the internet what to do"? Who's the real bro here, bro? SMH

The Bro hair posts are at least three times more interesting than the rest of this thread. I'm done with Bro/Pro/Average Joe sniping. Looking for advice on leave-in conditioner and leveling up my eyebrow shaping.

    @John D. @Jim K.

Stephan Kraus, Jonathon Greene and Alexander Felice can't even begin to compete with the glory that is John's mane, so they ignore him and continue their childish sniping.  We need to all bow to the John's curls.  As a woman, I wish my hair were so glorious!

Now @Russell Brazil, he's in a class all his own which nobody can touch.
