How to analyze neighborhoods instead of cities?

It seems there is a lot of information out there about analyzing MSA's or even big towns but a lot less on how to understand specific neighborhoods or zip codes. I would love to start a thread here to discuss but also looking for someone to discuss this with on a podcast or our virtual REI. Ideally looking for a way to understand a neighborhood to make offers in 15-20 minutes or less. Thanks!

Great post. Thanks! I do not invest on LI. I invest upstate, I have my first property closing date set for Wednesday actually and my second property for next week. I have never even been to the neighborhoods that I am investing in. What I have done up to this point is just really connect with investors local to the area and spend a lot of time on google maps, Trulia, Zillow, etc.  I also try to keep up with local news in the area to get a feel for what is going on there. Talking to my property manager about a property is also helpful because nobody really knows a particular street or neighborhood better then them! However, I would love a more comprehensive system for analyzing small pockets of an area as I am seeing that conditions can change drastically just from one block to the next.

@Gina Cook thanks and congrats!  Good point, a lot of the lift can be bypassed with amazing people on the street.
