Hi guys,
So my property was on the market for a couple of month this summer through a realtor. Now I see its being advertised as for sale by owner on Zillow and Trulia. First I did not pay attentions to it, but then I started getting calls from some random people asking to show the property. I agreed to do that thinking they are the buyers, but they bring other people who I think they are trying to sell to. I think they are trying to be wholesalers, which would be fine, except they advertise as my property as the property owners without discussing that step with me. So, if you call on the add on Zillow or Trulia, their phone number will come up, as owners, not mine.
What do I do?
Call police? Police probably wont do much...
I would like to advertise my property myself on zillow and trulia, and I would like MY number to come up, not theirs...
Let your agent know. Talk it over with their broker. Reach out to the State board.
One of those should get you on the right path
The property is not currently for sale so I do not have a real estate agent.
They do not have a broker, they are not real estate agents. They are either criminals who scam people, either wholesalers who do not do their business in an honest manner. (They advertise my property as if they are owners of the property)
@Mary Jay Hi Mary - that absolutely should not be happening. If I may ask, did you sign anything with them or was this “agreement” just done via conversation?
This is probably scammers. They'll take a deposit via some untraceable transfer method such as Western Union, etc. I've had multiple cases of my properties being advertised online to rent for significantly less than what I listed them for. I put a for rent sign with my phone number and rent price in front of the property now and that helps a bit. The people doing this may even be from overseas. So it's hard to punch them in the nose. lol.

I would start by asking the people that’s trying to show and sell the house what they’re up to.
I would go onto Zillow and Trulia and put in your own for sale by owner add over their ad, making their ad go away. In that ad clearly state that there has been a fraud attempt and someone who is NOT the owner is trying to sell this house and it is a scam.
Next thing you are going to notice is new people moving into your house, believing they are the new owners, with a large loan and lots of lost money. AND now they can say they saw you at the house and you knew what was going on and are part of a scam.
You can also go on Zillow and “claim” the property as its owner.
How do you do that?
I buy and sell in Phoenix. If you think they are illegally advertising your property I think you should first text or call them and ask how much they are selling it for and when it is available. When they respond you have proof with your text messages what they are up to. Then you have a contact number to pass on to the police. Given the concern you've expressed, I'd check at the county website to make certain they haven't illegally transferred title. If you don't know how to check, DM me and I'll walk you through it.
