surge protectors from electric shock on hvac systems and electronic filter

Hi All,
One big HVAC company says I need surge protectors from electric shock on hvac systems. He says one need for a furnace is one needed for an outside fan. Do we need surge protectors? I never had it for many years.
He is also suggesting electronic filters which I never had either. Please advise

     Its not bad to have surge protectors on equipment, really depends on where you are and how the electric grid is. if you lose power a lot then surge protection is highly recommended. electronic filters, again nice to have but honestly do not feel needed. just my opinion

    You can install a "whole house" surge protector in your service panel. It fits in two breaker spaces and they're easy to install in a couple minutes. The device is probably around a hundred bucks. If you're not handy have an electrician put one in for you.
