Hi, for those who are living off their rental income, what do you tell people what you do for work? ( you don’t want to tell them how many property you own or anything private)

1) property management

2) real estate portfolio management

3) ——- something else , please describe

I just tell people that I do "Real estate stuff," and that's boring enough that they don't ask more questions. 

My business cards, which I hand out to literally no one, legitimately have the title "licensed burrito expert."

No one who is truly successful cares about anyone else's title.

    -as long as you are documenting and logging material participation organized and accurately, you would qualify for some sweet tax benefits. Highly recommend speaking to a real estate cpa.

    I usually tell people that I’m an unemployed, unemployment counselor.

      No, I can’t, I want to look good on social event, also I don’t want to volunteer I have properties. So to sounds sophisticated. I need a good title 😂

    For me, it's property management. I think that I only told a few people how many buildings that I own, but I don't normally volunteer the info.

      Yes, I did that too. But property manage doesn’t sounds sophisticated. I want something more fancy🤣😂

    If a tenant asks, I say I'm the landlord. If anyone else asks, I say my husband and I own a small rental property business and that we own and manage our own rentals. If they ask how many units, I'm happy to share.

    If you don't want to say real estate investor, you can just say I work in real estate.

    Asset manager.   This applies to my various holdings but also applies to RE where I use a professional PM and the units we self manage.

    In addition I am CTO of our LLC, wife is ceo (she is so much more but ceo sounds good).

    Also you never know when someone will be interested in partnering with you on some investment.

    I put my PhD title (a field not RE related) on my realtor business card... I spent four years on it so it better show up somewhere lol.

    I don't like the term landlord. Investor sounds to pretentious and I am definitely not a property manager.

    I'm in real estate, even if I would not be an agent I would say that. My card for the rental biz says "partner", that leaves room to say I have to check and get back to you. 

    I have stopped answering the question about how many units we own even though we are a small fish; its like asking someone net worth, whatever you say the emotional response is mostly negative, either people envy you (not in a good way), worst case they come back at some point later and ask you for money, or the response is to one-up me by saying something like oh, we have 4,000. So I deflect, say a hand full - most people get the hint.
