Without $600 inspection, $10K to $30k abatement & being added to the state& fed LEAD DISCLOSURE LIST

City council will introduce LEAD ABATEMENT IN ALL RENTALS. Tues 2 pm at city council, 1 govt center. On the main floor.

    In the article, it explains that this Toledo model is following a model that initiated in Rochester NY - any Rochester landlords that have experience/can weigh in on this process, impact, etc?

    Unfortunately, there is no easy solution for this issue, if the city adopts the new law. It should be a common sense self regulated as good landlords would take care of chipped paint with regular upkeep.  

    There are many other social issues might arise from adapting this law such as landlords might discriminate against families with kids under 6 years old. Another will be the rise of rent in the Toledo area due to fewer homes passing the inspection and/or the rise in landlord's overhead.

    Right now, Toledo is not ready economically to take this leap of faith.

    @Sam B.  Rossford adapted a new law last Summer regarding rental properties which have to be registered with the city. Also, an annual inspection has to be done.

    There will be a hearing before voting due to the overwhelming emails and phone calls the city council received. However, the general atmosphere that it will pass just like other cities: Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
