Is landlord obligated to fix appliance during eviction proceeding

Sue Chen
Posted

Hey, I have filed eviction for non-paying tenant, the court date is a week away. The tenant texted me this morning that they want to go to court, because they believed they can argue for lower rent. At the meantime, the washer dryer is broken, and they want it fixed asap. Am I obligated to fix it now? Should I wait till after the court hearing?

@Sue Chen I would definitely call an appliance guy and schedule them for 2 weeks out. That way you can honestly tell the tenant and the judge that it’s scheduled to be fixed. You’re doing your landlord duty!
