Do you all have tenants on your social media?

Question

I’m curious how many of you landlords have your tenants on any of your social media apps? Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, ect. Is it professional? Does it help? Or does it make it difficult seeing posts on personal pages you might rather not see ? I have two rentals that I am “friends” with the tenants and i am indifferent. Just wanted others thoughts. Thanks!

@Krystle Hammers I don't do facebook, twitter or any of those. If I did, I would not have my tenants down as friends. You do what you are comfortable with, but I prefer to keep my personal life and business separate.

I am not friends with my tenants on social media. The idea is terrifying.

I see very little benefit and a lot of risk. I get friend requests from tenants all the time and I just ignore them. I do the same with Landlords that are my clients. I don't want those people getting involved in my day-to-day life. If they really want a friendship, they know how to reach me. I'm friends with a few of my Landlords, related to a couple, and I even have a few renters that are friends but they were friends first.

@Sandy Gabin I don’t have any social media either except Snapchat and that’s to keep an eye out for my daughter, and one of my tenants added me and now I see all of her “snaps” and I’m not sure how I feel about it lol

Hi there! On my end, no. I've been in this business for 3 years and I myself don't have any social media. Personally, I don't have my life out there. My thing is that if anyone wants to know about me, then look for me. I'm old school and I like it that way!

Social Media is or should be a driving force of advertisement in your business. Your tenants are your target customer so people who are or could be your tenants should see your content. Now don't think it's all sunshine and rainbows though. If you get a big enough following the haters will start to come out of the woodwork. For example, I've got well over 125,000 followers collectively among various platforms and there is a twitter account out there dedicated to spitting in my food lol.
