Received a violation due to CO and Court Appearance

I am in NJ. We received CO but inspector gave me a violation due to 3 year inspection. So now I received court appearance. Is it a normal practice and what to expect? Did anyone have experience with this issue? Do I need a lawyer? How much will it cost me?? 

I have all records of phone calls and follow-ups.

    I'm not a Jersey boy and don't know your laws, but it seems they would give you a warning and the opportunity to correct first. Then they would hit you with a fine. The third step would be a court hearing.

    I just did a quick Google search (I know enough to be dangerous) and it does appear there is a process of fines before they would take you to court. Are you sure you didn't miss some notices or fail to comply?

    I have all COs. Thats's why I am so confused.

      Have you tried calling them to ask this question? If they're not responding, keep notes and then defend yourself in front of the court.
