I'm hoping they build robotic handymen. I need a dependable one to paint and fix things in a timely fashion.

    I wouldn’t be surprised as they are a very forward thinking company.  I don’t care for the cars myself, but if it brings jobs to my area, then bring it!

    If they do start manufacturing their own batteries it would be a big move. If they stop using Panasonic and move in house that's because they can do it cheaper and make better batteries. Elon has spoken in the past about his dream with batteries, and finding new ways to generate their power source. 

    It could be the cathode plant that Elon was talking about at Battery Day, who knows.

    "Musk said Tesla will build a new cathode plant for its batteries in North America, part of its quest to reduce supply chain costs and simplify cathode production. It’s also making improvements to its process that will make cathodes 76 percent cheaper, and produce zero wastewater. The company also plans to diversify the cathodes it uses, because of low nickel supplies."

    Per Elon Musk from the original press release in July: 

    “We’re also very excited to announce that we’re going to be building our next gigafactory in Texas. It will be about five minutes from Austin (Bergstrom Inter)national Airport and 15 minutes from downtown Austin,” Musk said. “It’s right on the Colorado River, so there’s actually going to be a boardwalk where there’ll be a hiking and biking trail. It’s going to basically be an ecological paradise, birds in the trees, fish in the stream and they will be open to the public as well. So if anyone is interested in looking at a Giga Texas with engineering, production, whatever the case may be, please let us know."


    Almost seems like an eco-tech playground. Regardless, exciting stuff and hoping we continue to feel the ripples of this in the real estate market and local economy especially those in SE Austin.
