Passive Income and moving to cheap countries. Who’s done it?

Question

I’ve seen on a few FI blogs where those who have achieved as little as $2k/m in income decided to move to inexpensive parts of the world. Southeast Asia for example.

They may live only off the income, but also has some emergency savings and may work remotely.

Anyone done this? Share your story.

I’d be up for doing this for a year or so, but I’d want to come back and keep working.

That is awesome. I haven't heard of anyone doing that with real estate but its very plausible.

I'm financially free right now and living off the income from the rental properties. But I am living in LA and not living out of the country.

$2k/mo in some parts of the world is a lot of money!

Following, as I hope to do this in a few years! Would love to move overseas, if only for a year or two, in order for our kids to experience a different culture and gain some international perspective. I’m always researching different countries’ cost of living and visa requirements to compile some good options...would love to hear from someone who has done this successfully.
