Thoughts on news story?

Question

Just a few minutes ago I saw a news story with a representative from the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America). He says that the DSA believes that no Landlord should be able to realize "double-digit profits" as he put it. Seems that is 'immoral'.......

These are small groups of extremist and confused college students whos views will quickly change once they graduate, until it is wide spread I am not too worried. Whats crazy though is many of these groups actually get their funding from a man named Neville Roy Singham, an American tech mogul who lives in Shanghai and is linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) with an estimated 785 million dollar networth. If you look at the financial disclosure forms of who is funding these groups it is actually very organized with big money behind the movement and yes they believe housing should be community property with no landlords, they would seize all private property if had the chance.

I mean, if he is a socialist, this view point fits with his political views, right?

Avoiding political discussion, I agree with @Caleb Brown - I would never invest in properties in NY unless it was a rental for a direct family member that couldn't afford to live there otherwise (like my children for example).

Sums up NYC, I would hate to be a landlord there. Nothing new, they don't like people coming out ahead unless they are a select few. I think if a landlord provides housing, takes care of the property and tenants who's to say what they can make $$ wise.

During a July 18, 2026, interview on Fox News' The Story, Gordillo argued against landlords earning an average 12% return, asserting, "That's not in the Constitution."
