I thought it might be fun to discuss some of the awful (or funny) things people have said to us as investors.
I do a lot of direct mail marketing, so I fairly frequently get a call or voicemail asking to be taken off the list. This one started off pretty tame, but then just got unnecessarily mean at the end. Here's the transcript of the voicemail:
"Yes I keep getting flyers from you wanting to buy our house. At first the flyers were just letters but now they have your pictures on it, and I wish I'd quit receiving this. If I was interested I would have replied to the original one a year ago. Besides I don't want to put myself through looking at two of the ugliest people I've ever seen in my life. It grosses me out."
I haven't been doing this for very long, but I think that's the worst thing I've heard yet! Anybody else have any stories?
One I fondly remember was - after putting out post-it notes on doors in a the Phoenix market (using a contractor) - we got a call from a woman that was SCREAMING at us (voicemail) and saying that she now felt that we were stalking her, maybe watching her, wanting her house when she had NO INTENTION of selling it and, now she felt she could no longer stay there, she had called the police to report us, etc. She seemed to be a serious caller, not a joke.
Not so much profanity, but more insanity.
I've had people tell me to "get the **** off their property", etc. It's the crazy ones that I find more memorable than those who are simply upset for some reason I can at least understand!
I had one seller who kept calling us at random times during the day and night. I'm talking like 5 am in the morning or 9 pm at night. He always left the most rude voicemails too. I have them saved... Anyways, I answered finally and I asked him politely for his information to take him off my list. He refused, got rude with me so I told him to f*ck off and some other mean things. Never called back.
