Tampa investors I have a question for you. While looking through Zillow I noticed a lot of homes have turned there garages into extra bedrooms or homes only have garage ports. It’s my personally opinion to have a garage anywhere I live. Have you noticed that trend as well for renters. Are they more inclined to rent homes with garages rather than car ports or is the difference so small it doesn’t really matter?
How astute of you...properties that have a garage or carport not only are in greater demand but they command higher rent - and that even include Section 8 properties. It's becoming more of an expectation than not. I've also seen a lot of garage conversions that really weren't worth it. No one wants to live in something that feels "converted."
And, I'm with you...I personally want a garage. I actually bought my house in Hyde Park because it had one.
Carport (attractive built-in) PLUS a good-sized shed won't hurt as much as the extra bedroom helps in areas without snow. In snowy areas, the garage is worth more. The main issue is 1) place to put the car out of the weather and 2) place to put other STUFF. "Out of the weather" varies based on where you are.
