    Hi Keli,

    You should always check with an attorney, but iIn Texas, a properly declared homestead is strongly protected from being taken in a civil lawsuit to pay most judgment debts. It cannot be seized by creditors except for specific, limited exceptions like mortgage defaults, tax debts, home improvements, or home equity loans. Other unsecured creditors cannot force a sale.
