just curious as to how much headache getting homeowners insurance with certain breeds really is.

I hear horror stories of people getting thier policy cancelled all the time due to owning a "vicious breed" which is a total bunch of BS in the first place, my "vicious breed" is the sweetest, most loving thing in the world, shes even afraid of my cats. this coming from a guy who until recently hated all dogs.

she totally changed my mind about dogs and especially ones that are so called "vicious" and i wouldnt go anywhere without her. I saved her from going to the shelter, a friend couldnt keep her and ran out of options, I said I would keep her till the friend got an appointment at a no kill shelter, within a day i decided she was going to stay with us forever.

shes a boxer mix thats my story and i'm stickin to it 8)

I know a vet that rescued a dog that was part wolf because he knew the dog could never be placed in a home legally. He made a good home for it and never tells about the true nature of the breed, thus saving a good dog.

My understanding is some insurance companies deny due to certain breeds of dogs and others simply deny they'll pay any claims arising from damage those breeds might inflict. It really needs to be checked out.

I recently (last week) saw a list of 75 "banned" breeds. There's something to be said about the reasons for this banning, mostly political, but generally it's the owners training or lack of, that allows/permits/demands a dog to be vicious.

My own ins co has a ban on about 5 breeds, none of which I have, and if I remember correctly, when I checked, the agent said they would not issue me insurance, which seems unbelievable. So do check. If you want that list of 75, I can copy it here.

Thanks, yes, I'd appreciate the list of dog breeds. This tenant was counseled and agreed she's just lonely and will wait for a dog when she gets a larger apartment...which means she needs to get out of graduate school first.

If it's not there by the time you go, I'll post it. (This article is quite long)

"List Of 75 Banned Or Restricted Breeds - Is Your Dog On The List?
The information here comes from the Responsible Dog Owners Of The Western States (RDOWS) , which has just updated the list of breeds that have been banned or restricted in the U.S.

All you dog lovers out there may just be in for a shock. BSL - or breed-specific legislation and breed discrimination- isn't just for pitbulls or Rottweilers anymore...
The RDOWS has tracked a list of 75 breeds of dogs that have been banned or restricted - yep - that's Seventy-five. That's 75!

Just who or what is behind this breed ban frenzy?

Is your dog on the list of banned or restricted breeds?

    Here's the deal...............
