Sometimes going to local investor meet ups after investing for 15 years and building a large portfolio is a little disappointing. The majority of the investors at these local meet ups are either new or they've only done a handful of deals.
I would like to network with investors that have done hundreds of deals and have made multiple millions of dollars in real estate.
For those who have built a net worth of over 5 million dollars or more in real estate, what are the best ways you have found to network with people at your level or higher?

This is a good question.
I found that meetups are kind of like you described not much really happens there and for sure REIAs and their monthly meeting kind of the same people talking about the same thing then bring in ( at least what i have seen with the PDX reia) folks that are presenting on things that worked decades ago.. and want to sell their stuff for a few grand.
For me personally the best networking hands down was SF Bay Area events San Jose Reia
and LA FIBI events.
folks in those markets are very real estate centric and generally more experienced and in San Jose so many tech folks that have done really really well.. maybe not in RE but have done great in TECH and have quite a bit of bandwidth for investments..
Then you have the Masterminds that cost 10 to 30k per year to be a member and those have folks in the trades and in the bizz name brand gurus we all recognize.. While interesting was not my cup of tea as most of them already have their teams in place and so I did not see that as business opps.. Although they will all talk about how they do things which of course is a benefit and why folks go.. but lots of very large egos as well. :)

To me personally as well I found it was more important for what I do to cultivate commerical bankers and those relationships so I could get access to bank rate capital and lots of it !!

It has been several years since I went to a local real estate meet up. I have a number of friends that are worth millions. Most of the people that I know that seem to have high net worth you just kind of develop it more accident than on purpose. A couple of them we have known each other for a number years and they were not wealthy per se when we first met so we grew together. It is also been my experience and observation that there are people that have money and quite a bit that do not advertise the fact.. If you crack the code how to find shortcuts feel free to let me know. :-)

One method to meet the sort of investors you're looking to hobnob with is to get involved in their association. For you that would be the Arizona Multi Housing Association. Get involved means more than go to meetings - the Better Government/Lobbying groups within the association attract the money to their meetings/events/volunteer opportunities.
Networking is about meeting people and where would people that are real estate investors with high net worth congregate? Usually it's not RE meet-ups, more likely it's golf clubs, private bars, coffee shops in affluent areas, ski areas, etc. What outcome would you like by networking with them? Are you looking for deals, capital, new friends?

I 100% agree. I did attend a local BP meet up for a while. Not that I got any business from it, but I really liked the young wholesalers (they were good kids that are just trying to do it the right way) that threw it as well as a few of the people that attended. Most of the stuff I attend now are higher-level conferences that cost a lot to get it. Not the ones the gurus throw, but professional conferences that they hedge funds attend. I'm finding grabbing coffee one-on-one has gotten me more business than doing meet ups. And REIAs? Total waste of time for a seasoned pro IMO. I tried attending one in my local market a couple of times but felt like I was in some hotel ballroom being pitched on how the 12 year-old kid up in front would teach us all how to run to the back of the room to swipe $10K on our AMEX for the secrets of real estate investing. I'm all the way across the country from you or I would invite you out for coffee to connect. I will tell you that IMN out of NU (IMN.org) throws some really good conferences in the Scottsdale area. They are expensive, but that keeps only the serious players coming back. Good luck to you Shiloh. I 100% agree with you.

@Bradley Buxton I'd like to network with more people that have a net worth of between 5 and 10 million dollars. I feel like I've been stuck between that 4 to 6 mark for about three years and I'm having a hard time pushing past that. In my experience, your level of wealth that you can handle is based on your mindset. And in order to change the level of wealth, you need to change your mindset. Being around people with the mindset that you'd like to have is probably one of the best ways to help shift your mindset. so in order to shift my financial mindset, I'd like to spend time with people that are at a financial level that I'd like to be at.
