Chris, we are at about 350 homes managed. We have reviewed AppFolio and find it to be overall better suited for our growth. Functionality, appearance along with another close friend and college here who use it, we just felt this is the direction we want to go. Also, our new office manager came from a company that managed over 1,300 homes and they were using it so we felt this was another reason for our transition.

Curt — that extra context actually makes me more confident I’d hold off on paying a third party if you haven’t already.

At ~350 homes, the migration is meaningful enough that you want it done correctly, but you also have a major advantage: your new office manager has already operated inside AppFolio at a 1,300+ home company. That dramatically reduces the amount of outside help I’d expect you to need.

My background is in complex systems, operations, data migration and workflow design, including work at Disney, Amazon and Twilio, and I work heavily around real-estate/property-management operations now.

The part I’d focus on isn’t whether AppFolio is the right choice — your reasoning there makes sense. It’s making sure you don’t carry Buildium’s old structure, dirty data, accounting/reconciliation issues, or unnecessary processes into the new environment.

If you haven’t hired anyone yet, I’m happy to look at the migration with you first and tell you what I think actually requires outside help versus what your team can handle internally. I suspect you may be able to save a fair amount of money.

Michael, I have not hired a 3rd party yet but I do have a scheduled call with someone tomorrow to learn about their services. My issue along with our new managers issue is time, we dont have the time to do the merge so I need someone who can do it for me. I would be happy to connect about this.
