Has anyone seen anything like this in St. Louis, or anywhere else? A tenant in STL reached out to me this morning with these photos. They say they've been living like this since the May 16, 2025 tornado. That's almost a year and a half with the ceilings down to the lath, plaster covering the kitchen floor and mold on the walls. I spent two decades in property management, and I've never seen someone still living in conditions this bad.
I'd love to hear from this community. If you invest or manage in St. Louis, have you run into other tenants still living with storm damage like this? And for anyone in other markets, have you seen tenants stuck like this after a disaster? What did you see work to get them somewhere safe and get the place fixed? I'm hoping we can pull together ideas that help this family and anyone else in the same spot.
Well, I have taken over management of many properties that had tenants living in conditions much worse, but without the help of an actual tornado for the assist.
If those are current pics, and the tenant actually still is there (I call BS!) then report them to Adult Protective Services, as they obviously have mental issues. Clearly the property owner and/or any "management" is way out of their depth, and have no resources, and never had proper insurance. These are the type of people that give all PM's a bad name, and they should be jailed.
