California certainly doesn't make some things easy but it is amazing the number of people will say "I will never buy in CA" or "will never do business in CA" when it is the 4th largest economy in the world as you said.  

That unit has been sitting on the market ever sense. 

In the 1940's who would have thought, "I will build an adult playground in the desert that will become one of the worlds largest tourest destinations in the world." 

Property taxes are high here in SC, specifically our local counties, with this being the largest expense outside of major maintenance or repairs. 

In Bryson City you have a popular tourist train (GSMR), one of the largest casino's in the Southeast, the Nantahala Outdoor Center, the second largest lake in NC, and some of the most notorious fly fishing rivers in the US. 

The deal died 3 times, as ever good deal does, but the seller knew I was a good buyer and I knew he was an honest seller.

We're on the other side of the largest period of real estate appreciation in my lifetime just a few years ago, and if you can still buy a property for sub-$100k, it's because nobody wants it.
