Something to think about is how code varies from one area to another, and how one town and the town next to it will have different building inspectors who end up looking at things quite differently from each other. In areas where I have property, things range from needing dedicated arc-fault interrupter circuits for each bedroom, and to needing interconnected hard-wired smoke detectors, and code in Phila even requires CO detectors in certain cases. If you don't know the code for the area, get somebody who does to do the work or to advise you in doing the work.
