That's a 96X multiplier, seems a bit more "ridiculous" than "reasonable" to myself.

That means costs multiply with loan count, not just loan dollars. 2,000 small loans cost far more to securitize than 400 larger ones, which is why asset managers  prefer higher minimum loan sizes.

For example, are they taking 8% of the quarterly estimate payment I made (whether it's high or low) or the actual quarterly earnings for that quarter, or are they taking the total income for the year, dividing by 4 and then charging interest based on that average quarterly amount (multiplied by the number of days late)?

If it continues and you use leverage to multiply the return from appreciation, it should result in a good return for a long hold.
