They seemed to be divided into three camps.  1) Retirees who came for the warm weather and somewhat lower cost of living 2) People who bought a business and are living there 3) People who love to scuba dive and were coming there all the time anyway.Before going, I talked to a friend who's mom had a condo in Belize.  

Travel, fishing, hiking/backpacking, snorkel/Scuba.

While I don’t see myself ever fully retiring, I’m aiming for the flexibility to travel and enjoy a few scuba trips each year. 

I have my hobbies for sure and I could do some serious scuba and skydiving but I need to do something.

Less crime, less extortion, better fishing and SCUBA/snorkeling, and a good mission in Loreto.I am interested what others have to say about the effort and profitability as I would love to have a STR cottage on the beach in Loreto.

Wisdom is to realize that surprises happen, unfunded liabilities exist, bonds are headed for a dive, rents are peaking in some markets, Illinois is broke and getting broker, 800,000 rich people are leaving California and New York and heading to Arizona, Nevada, Texas and Florida (and New Zealand) and there is a migration that runs from new taxes.
