Diving back into real estate

Mark Izzo
Posted

Hi BiggerPockets Community,

I’m Mark Izzo, based in Morrisville, North Carolina. I was active in real estate from 2002 to 2008, completing around 13 flips and BRRRRs with my ex-wife, while also working as an apartment maintenance engineer/supervisor. From 2009 to 2017, I ran a small construction business and later became a registered nurse.

In 2014, I fully renovated a derelict duplex I lived in and later sold for a solid return. However, a rehab project in 2018 didn’t go as planned, leading me to step back and regroup. That experience taught me valuable lessons, and I’m now returning to real estate with renewed focus and a smarter, more strategic mindset.

I’m actively pursuing multifamily investing, with a focus on underwriting, deal analysis, financing, and insurance, and I’m open to opportunities beyond my local market.

A key shift for me has been letting go of the “do-it-all-yourself” mindset. Reading Who Not How helped me realize the importance of collaboration. I’m currently exploring a partnership with a close friend who has an MBA and capital-raising experience.

Long-term, I want to build a business my daughter can one day take over. While I don’t see myself ever fully retiring, I’m aiming for the flexibility to travel and enjoy a few scuba trips each year.

I’m here to learn, connect, and contribute where I can.

Thanks for having me,

Mark Izzo
