What separates a brokerage that develops agents from one that simply recruits them?

Experienced agents, team leaders, and broker/owners: I'd love your perspective.

I recently passed my California real estate salesperson exam and am evaluating brokerages as I begin my career.

I'm intentionally looking beyond commission splits and onboarding. I'm trying to evaluate the things that are hardest to change after joining a brokerage; leadership, mentorship, accountability, culture, business planning, and whether a brokerage has a genuine track record of helping agents build sustainable businesses.

One question I've been thinking about is this:

What questions, conversations, or behaviors from a brokerage signal they're genuinely invested in developing a newly licensed agent, not simply recruiting one?

And on the flip side:

What questions should I be asking to identify a brokerage that's committed to my long-term success?

I'd love to hear what you've found to be the strongest indicators of a great brokerage relationship, whether you're an experienced agent, team leader, or broker/owner.

Thank you!
