Saying I'm an agent on my "investor" business cards

Hi all,

I'm about halfway through my licensing course, and it's possible this question will get answered further into my course material, but I thought I'd go ahead and ask.

I plan on using my license exclusively for my own investment deals, so I don't plan on handing out many "Hey, I'm an agent, call me for representation" cards. Instead, I plan on getting some "Hey, I'm an investor, who also has a license" cards. Are there any rules about where and how I can indicate that I'm a licensed agent, including my license number? Can I only put those on a card with, say, my brokerage's logo (or name). Or can I willy nilly throw out there that I have a license on any business card I choose?

Those laws vary by state, so check w/ your regulating body.

    @Matt PowellIf you're advertising you're a licensed agent or realtor, you'll need to disclose brokerage and a number of other required items. Having said that, I've seen business cards that show one side as investor-driven, and the other side as representation driven.

    @Matt PowellIt does go state by state, but I think every state is going to require you to tell any potential buyer or seller you are an agent.

    In Maryland any form of real estate advertising  for a licensed agent needs to make it apparent that you are an agent. There are several requirements I know off hand which includes you have to have your brokerage name included, the brokerage phone number (so that someone can contact your broker directly without going through you), and you must have the equal housing logo.  There are requirements also as to what size things can be....but I forget the size that each thing has to be.  Your broker has to approve all of your advertising as well.  This is actually a fairly good example of one of the slight downsides to being a licensed agent

    Also it should be noted, that any real estate activity you are involved in needs to be approved by your broker, as a claim can be made against the brokerages e&o insurance. That is why some brokers will not let their agents participate in activities like wholesaling. So all real estate activities, and real estate marketing (including business cards) need to be approved by a broker even if the activities have nothing to do with your broker.

     I do exactly this with my business cards.  One side has the logo and contact information for my investing business and the other is a typical real estate agent card.

    I am in the same boat here in anchorage alaska. I am an investor/ agent. It has been challenging letting my brokers understand what i do as far as wholesaling.
