If you are going to start anywhere, start with these two. There is arguably no better set of instantly applicable tools you can begin using right away to navigate emotional terrain and see results in your everyday life. To dig deeper, check out Robert Cialdini's Influence and Pre-Suasion. The former is a great foundation for basic principles of persuasion, and the latter goes into detail about how to set the table before you actually start persuading to shift things in your favor.
