I'm a US citizen currently living in Ireland looking to return to the US, somewhere warm and coastal with good real estate investment opportunities.

I've 15 years experience in construction and have already built and flipped properties.

If you could choose where would you go?

I lived in Charleston for 9 years while I was in the Navy. It is one of my favorite places to live.

Lots to see and do, many different beaches, great restaurants, low cost of living.

Savannah would be another great choice.

@Kieran McDonagh Tampa/St Petersburg is a great place to live! Low cost of living, no state income tax, and some of the best beaches in the country!

Nobody said North Carolina! Opportunities abound, and the weather is mild. Everybody seems to be flocking here. Lots of buildings going up. Lots of road construction too.Used to be easier to get around. Too many people already if you wanna know the truth. It's actually a terrible place. Forget I even brought it up!

@Jeff Bousquet If you like Isle of Palms you should come to Seabrook Island. It's cheaper to rent, beaches are less crowded (6 miles of private beach), 30 minutes from the airport and its the same distance into Charleston. I'm working on a STR now but if you are interested let me know.

I'd look into the Tampa, FL area. There are some great surrounding suburbs and that whole area is great for REI.

Two camps of where to live:

    1) San Diego

    2) People who are wrong

    :)

@Kieran McDonagh I live and invest in South Florida. I believe it would be an excellent fit for you.

Hello Jonathan Hulen. Sounds like me when I made my first trip around the World 50 years ago. I grew up in SF Bay Area and was a surfer in Santa Cruz, but, I love the Tropics. So, it was lush, tropical mountains into the sea with rivers and lakes and surf. I ended up three hours East of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. You have to get around the Politics and look forward to more good weather and food and things to do. If you learn how to make money on your laptop, trading REIT's or the other Markets, then you don't have to do more than buy a fixer upper Home and use the Tax rules to Flip it and move the money onto the next houses within 90 days to use it Tax-free. I think as a Minimalist as far as Real Estate is concerned. Use the Tax-free and Tax-deferred rules to make more with less.
