What kind of bank account is best?

Purchasing my first property with a partner. We want to open a business bank account, but I don’t want my personal finances mixed up with my business.

Me, my partner, and the property are all in different states and the property is not in an LLC but may be someday.

What should a beginner know about starting a real estate business account?

    Wow that spacing looks really different on an iPhone.

    @Shafi Noss open a business checking account with all partners named on it. I would pick a national chain bank, just because you are all in different states. I am assuming you have a partnership working agreement and one person is "in charge" of the finances? Have rules in place on who writes checks, when and for what. Monitor closely. Things can go wrong. One partner has a gambling problem and all the sudden money walks from the account. I know you trust them, but good people have problems too, so just keep an eye on everything.

    @Shafi Noss

    Open a bank account with ownership listed as tenancy in common. The other form of ownership is joint with right of survivorship. You don’t want that as if anything happens to you, the cash goes to your partner and not your estate/family.

    Ideally though, you would form an LLC in the future and title the bank account to the LLC.
