Looking for local vendors in Maui

Aloha,

New investor here and excited to be getting started in Maui. We just finished remodeling a single-family home with an attached ohana unit. The ohana will be rented furnished as a midterm rental (6mos +)

Before listing, I’m building out my systems and looking to put together a reliable local vendor list. If anyone owns rental property on Maui and is willing to share recommendations, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Specifically looking for:

  • Handyman
  • Cleaner
  • Electrician
  • Plumber
  • Flooring
  • Painter
  • Appliance repair

We’ve considered property management but decided to self-manage initially for learning purposes, especially since our family lives in the main house.

Open to any feedback, lessons learned, or suggestions from those who’ve been through this already.

     How is the market in Mauii? Are you guys finding value-add deals there? I think Brandon Turner (former BP host) invests there too right?

    I'd say it really depends on your strategy. I’d caution against short-term rentals right now, Maui just passed Bill 9, which restricts a lot of those opportunities unless it's hotel zoned.

    It’s a strong market for long-term rentals: high demand, low vacancy, and solid rents. However housing costs are high.

    We were lucky because we inherited our property, renovated it, and added a 1-bedroom unit and a studio alongside the main 3-bedroom house (main residence). These two units alone can generate around $4,000/ month in rent. 

    And yes, I’ve heard Brandon Turner invests here too, does he still live on the island?

    I'm a local GC out here on Maui.  If you guys need any value add projects done let me know.  I'm building ohana's and homes for people out here currently, and am looking to fill my late 2026 and 2027 schedule up.  Or if you decide to buy a fixer I can help with large renos as well.
