Emergency fund vs reserve, same thing?
Keep seeing these treated as interchangeable and I don't think they are. My emergency fund covers the stuff I can't predict, a burst pipe, an eviction, a vacancy that runs long. My maintenance reserve is supposed to cover stuff that's actually predictable if I'm paying attention, a 17-year-old water heater isn't a surprise, it s a countdown.
Started splitting them mentally into two different numbers instead of one big cushion, and it changed how much I actually needed to feel safe. Turns out I was over-funding the unpredictable bucket and under-funding the predictable one. do you all separate these two, or is one buffer number doing double duty for you?
