Things to question and look out for....
Cashing paying, incomplete rental application, can't connect the dots with where they live and work, can't reach previous landlord, moving to a new town, just started a new job yesterday, need to move in right NOW, only one tenant applying for property but 5 family members showed up to view the property, applicant needs to use the restroom, applicant gets dropped off by a relative or taxi when viewing the property, applicant tells you not to call there previous landlord....

Don't know if this was mentioned yet, but I get very wary when prospective tenants start complaining about current/former rentals and/or landlords. Someone who has been very unhappy at multiple rentals will probably not be very happy at your rental. The last thing I want is a chronic complainer for a tenant.

I saw a lot of good answers but was also surprised about a few I didn't see.
If they want to see the house on Friday afternoon or Saturday and they want to move in right away and maybe they have the full months rent and deposit in cash.
They want to move a few things in before signing the lease.
Just a personal thing with me is if they say something about Jesus. "Have a blessed day" or anything like that. I know not everybody who says that is a con man but all con men do say that.
If they are the slightest bit pushy in any way at all.
