Hello all,

So I am at the very beginning of my real estate investment path. Education and resources are extremely important to me right now. Im starting with absolutely nothing and hoping to build life changing investments.

Shawn, welcome! You are in the right place. BiggerPockets is one of the best platforms for learning the basics and surrounding yourself with people who have already walked the path. Starting from zero is more common than you think. Most investors began with nothing but curiosity and a desire to change their financial future.

Focus on education, networking and understanding the strategies that fit your current situation. You don’t need money to start learning and the knowledge you build now will save you from costly mistakes later.

Take it one step at a time, stay consistent and don’t hesitate to ask questions. You are already ahead of many people just by taking the initiative to start. Wishing you the best as you build toward those life-changing investments.

Hey Shawn! My advice is to educate yourself on the local market, network with other investors and agents, and always have a solid plan in place before making any investments. If you are going to invest locally I would recommend house hacking. Here is an article with more information on what a house hack is: http://www.rocketmortgage.com/learn/house-hacking

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Love the hunger—starting from zero with a learning mindset is the right move. Two simple steps now: pick one clear buy box (property type, price, rent range, 1–2 target markets) and analyze a few real listings every day using a basic cash flow calculator, then sanity‑check rents with a local PM.

What market are you leaning toward, and what’s your first buy box so we can sharpen it together?

Hey Shawn, education and resources are important. Try to network and attend as many local events as you can to connect with lenders, agents, contractors, and others. The best education you'll get will always come from first hand experience, so when you can, just take the leap and move forward with your first deals.

I love the attitude coming in. For resources, you'll want to listen to RE podcasts such as BP and any local ones, read books such as rental property investing by Brandon Turner, and set for life by Scott trench.

I'd also look to attend local investing meetups and learn as much as possible and network with other investors, real estate agents, and lenders
