South Austin Asbestos contracting/DIY

Hi BP community! I live in Austin and am looking to potentially do a live in BRRR over the course of a couple of years. South Austin has a lot of older homes that are more reasonable prices BUT given the year they were build they likely have asbestos related remodeling issues.

There are a lot of flips/remodeling being done in that area and I find it unlikely the flippers are actually testing and paying for asbestos rebatment as they remodel since it's not a requirement for single family in Texas.

My question is what are actual risk factors for working on a 1970s home and are the other remodeled homes save to move into? Are these homes something I can work on DIY? I have worked on homes before but they were almost all early 2000s
