I while ago I read a post on BP about someone putting slanted drip pans under the sink so that if there is a leak water flows on the floor it is reported by a renter rather than pool and cause water damage especially in a second floor unit. I can't find this post anymore. I have searched and searched, but can't find actual name of this thing. I checked at home depot and didn't find it. Has anyone used this type of preventative maintenance in there own units. Where can I find this thing or do I have to build it. A picture or a link would be great. Thanks

I've done a couple of different things in my units to help with this. You can just staple-gun some rubber or plastic sheeting (kind of like shelf-liner) and upturn the edges for some drip catching.
Or, you can "tile" under the counter with the peel-and-stick adhesive tiles. IMHO, that's the only use I've found for those kinds of tiles. LOL

We solvent weld all plumbing with a union installed and then put linoleum in the cabinet. Linoleum is one piece and doesn't let water through. This cost me $4 as we always have extra linoleum around.

Besides leaking plumbing, leaks may occuring around the sink edge.

I think you are referring to sheet vinyl flooring, not linoleum. If you look it up, you will see that linoleum is made of made materials such as solidified linseed oil (linoxyn), pine rosin, ground cork dust, wood flour, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate, most commonly on a burlap or canvas backing.

Ryan, that is just my point. Gas ovens and microwave ovens both are ovens, as linoleum and sheet vinyl flooring are both sheet floor coverings. However, you don't just use "gas oven" to refer to both.

I did most of my own plumbing fix. What I learned is that if you plan your fix correctly so all the fitting line up and mate properly and clean/prep everything very well before assembly. That will prevent much future problems.
Use commercial grade, black plastic fittings everywhere.
My latest headache - leaking drain under 2nd floor shower.
Luckily, it is not leaking into a ceiling.
