Anyone have opinions on Phoenix

I got laid off and have an interesting opportunity in Phoenix and am considering relocating (job is in Chandler). What are some opinions on the area? I've heard it's hot there, but I am really trying to understand the real estate market.

Low income tax, good weather for 7 months out of the year, and you can carry a concealed weapon. Oh, and it's pretty affordable for housing
