Another stock market sell-off -ho hum

Seems like the markets are not exactly embracing the bailout plan. A worldwide sell-off is not a good sign.

...or maybe that is the best thing that could possibly happen! We need to get this country back to reality and end all the ridiculous promises that we've made but can't afford. Social security, medicare, medicaid, Section 8, welfare, food stamps, etc, etc, etc. They've GOT TO GO! Prosperity is NOT a right, it is EARNED through hard work.

I agree that these things are just bleeding us dry. Every time there’s a crisis what do they do? More handouts! But look where all of the social programs started…..the Great Depression!

Hopefully, this depression will have the opposite effect and we'll stop all the handouts and get back to capitalism.

Unfortunately, those are the things that aren't going to go anywhere, no matter how much of a recession we are in.

Don't forget to include our largest expense while suggesting spending cuts-the military. I think it should be obvious now that the economic situation we have gotten our country into is a much greater threat than any military in the world. All China has to do is hit the 'SELL' button and our country is toast without a single shot being fired! (by this I mean our way of living) I'm not saying get rid of the military but do we really need to deficit spend $700-$800 billion per year on it?

If you think about it though, the military is the best run socialist program we have! They've got universal healthcare/medicare/medicaid, Section 8, welfare, food stamps and social security-just with different names.

The military is the absolute LAST thing to cut in a world crisis.

I prefer to stay America and keep my voice / vote. A Clinton-era military cut on top of everything else would surely usher in Amerika.

I second that Mike! To bad it would never happen.

I knew a guy that refused to work over a certain amount of hours so he could still collect his wealthfare. He'd work up to a certain point of hours and then never come in. Even if we needed help.

Why sound we reward people with this kind of attitude?

Unfortunately these type of government hands outs are abused more often then they are used for good.

Time to end the free ride for some people. I know people come on hard times but if they have a backstop to fall on and get comfortable they won't ever try to fight there way back.

Maybe we need to change the voting system so that voting becomes a 'privilege' and not a 'right' -- something that is earned.

As long as politicians can earn votes by promising 'something' for 'nothing' they will continue to pander to the great number of people that want something for nothing.

I just got an idea... how about all the politicians get paid on commission. Then they will only get paid when they actually run the government so that it creates money instead of wasting it.

Imagine that, a government actually turning a true profit and not sucking money from everyone they can.

The other option would be that every year the citizens get to vote on how well their performance was and their pay is based on that performance. If they did lousy then they get a pay cut. After all it's the citizens that are paying the salaries so it should be the citizens voting on their performance.

They'd just raise taxes, after all it wouldn't be fair to cut back on those bloated vote buying programs.

I'd like to see politicians not get paid at all, and limit terms to 4 years and out. No re-elections, ever.

Those jobs should be a public service, not a career. If you take the money out of the equation, you just might get politicians who care about what they're delivering verses how much money they are receiving (for them and their friends).

Now, do you think my bill would pass? LOL

    Little Off Topic:

I'd like to see them rid all party titles. To many times do people vote specifically by party and not even listen to what the canidates are saying what are there ideals.

Sure it'll be easy enough to determine who is the conservative or who is the liberal. But it's sad to say the majority of the people are just dumb enough to vote strictly based on how there parents vote or someone with alot of influnce on there life.

Hell I'm sure some people vote on the party because red or blue is their favorite color....no lie.

My do we need to select one Rep and one Dem to square off in the debate?

Why not just the top 2 canidates?

Start off with 4 or 5 candiates like we always do...with no party title. Have them be voted in by ideals and morals and MAKE people LISTEN to what the canidate says not why giant party they stand for.

I think you'd see a better outcome when people use their brains to vote.

Sure when the system first changes to that format the media will still cast Canidate X as a Rep. and Canidate Y as a Dem. But over time it'd fade...at least that is what I believe.

Does anyone else find it ironic that too much cheap money pumped into the economy caused this entire mess and now the government is lowering the rate??? THEY'RE ALL A BUNCH OF IDIOTS!

I hope the government realizes that there is nothing they can do now to stop the economic issues. They pumped 700B into the economy and now they slashed rates again and wall street still is not happy. Maybe now they will stop trying to control the economy and just let the free market work everything out.

    Edited to correct the carnage.
