New but eager to learn Real Estate

Member since 2026 · 1 post · 1 vote

Hey everyone, my name is Mark. I’m in the Donna/Weslaco/McAllen/Edinburg area and I’ve been diving deep into real estate — reading, studying, and learning everything I can. I’m looking to connect with someone local who wouldn’t mind letting me tag along for a ride‑along, shadow a few tasks, or even just meet up for coffee to talk real estate.

I’m serious about growing in this field, I show up, I follow through, and I’m eager to learn from someone with real experience. If anyone is open to sharing some guidance or letting me see the day‑to‑day, I’d really appreciate it.

You're doing the right thing by getting around people who are actually doing deals. Don't be afraid to start by offering your time and helping with the unglamorous stuff; that's often how the best relationships are built. Keep learning how to analyze deals, estimate rehab costs, and understand financing. And if you eventually want to explore outside your local market, Midwest markets can be a great place to learn BRRRR with lower entry costs and strong cash flow potential.

Hey Mark, welcome! Sounds like you’re approaching it the right way by getting out there and learning from people with real experience. I’d definitely take advantage of those coffee chats and ride-alongs—you’ll learn things in the field that you just can’t get from books. Best of luck building your network in the Rio Grande Valley!

    Hey Mark,

I’d say just do it. Obviously, take calculated risks and educate yourself along the way, but at some point you have to get out there and start learning by doing. You’ll pick up a lot more from being around actual deals and people in the business than you will from just reading about it.

I’d also look into local real estate investor groups, meetups, and networking events in your area. Those are probably your best bet for finding someone who’s willing to let you tag along, grab coffee, or show you the ropes. Just keep showing up and building relationships.

Best of luck, Mark! Keep putting yourself out there, and feel free to DM me if you have any questions along the way!
