First duplex SOS

Hi there

i purchased my first duplex! Everything has been going great with the Reno's ... except.. the septic alarm on the duplex next door is going off! The smell that I have smelled (thankfully only twice) in 2-3 weeks is appalling. What can I do in this situation? I have a call into our town code enforcement and a call into environmental health. Any other action items?

Have you guys had a bunch of rain where it could have flooded the system or power outage that knocked out the sensors? My first step would be to talk to the owner next door and make sure they've got their septic company coming out asap. If it's something like a flooded system, I wouldn't want the folks who live there doing a bunch of laundry, etc. and cause the drainfield to get damaged.
