You can be the smartest person in the room, know your numbers inside and out, and still struggle to build a successful business.
Because at the end of the day, sales is part of everything we do.
And I'm not just talking about selling a product or convincing someone to invest.
You're selling yourself when you meet a broker or property owner.
You're selling trust when you're raising capital.
You're selling your experience when you're sitting across from a lender
You're selling a vision when you're building a team.
I've learned that people want to do business with people they know, like and trust.
That's why I preach relationships over transactions all day everyday.
To me, good sales isn't about pressuring someone into making a decision. It's about listening, understanding what they need and seeing if you can actually bring value.
Don't get me wrong, the numbers matter. But being great with numbers and being great with people are two different skills. You need both.
The numbers help you understand the deal. Sales and relationships help you get it done.
Curious, what's helped you more in business, technical skills or people skills?
@Willie Henriquez agree with you. I started out wanting a few sales a year on the side, and what grew it into a real business was relationships a lot more than spreadsheets. The opportunity is everywhere if you treat people right. Doing the right thing by people even when it costs you a little is what brings them back.
