Two Weeks in Africa - what I took away

Recently spent 2 weeks in Africa, the highlight being a safari, that even by safari standards ended up being pretty special for multiple reasons. I've naturally been reflecting on it and here are some of my main take away thoughts - PS none of these are groundbreaking -

  • what made is special was the people. And what the people able to shine was a well oiled and defined system. this is so applicable in so many areas of this biz but what I think its coming down to for me is that everyone I encountered cared about being at the top of their craft, whatever it was.

  • The success was not guaranteed and so clearly outside of our control. But what we did control was when we got up, when we got in the truck and how/where we looked. The only reason we saw something truly spectacular was because we happened to be the only people at our camp and therefore basically had a private truc and therefore requested to go out 45 mind earlier than normal. So yes things had to align and fall into place, but showing up and choosing to act on that was a large part of it also.

I'm going to have more to share I'm sure, but this is where I'm spending time currently.

@Michael K Gallagher that sounds like a special trip. The part about controlling when you get up and when you get in the truck is the part I'd hang on to. The market changes constantly and none of us control it, but how we run the business is ours. On our team we try to train and show up like that regardless of what the market's doing. Glad you got back safe, and looking forward to the rest of it.
