A local to me property just came on the market with a Tesla roof and battery wall. 

However, if you installed a complicated thermostat that is difficult for the average user to operate without a manual, then you should bare some responsibility.Can they just unplug it, remove the battery, and wipe the memory?

Some are communities and others are just video modules.

Firestone would still sell tires, but oil changes, batteries, belts, and brakes are not used much on electric cars.   

While it is very common for owners to have tenants responsible to change batteries in smokes, furnace filters, light bulbs etc they also need to be smart about it. 

If off the grid, depends on your Battery storage. 

The exceptions would be consumables (light bulbs, smoke detector batteries, etc.) and things you've specifically said (in writing) that you will not maintain.

Have a set of backup keys in a lockbox outside the property in case the battery dies.

Even if they hold to the $40K price, that is without options like no all wheel drive, smaller battery, lower towing capacity, etc.Personally, I say drive what you want to drive.
