I’ve read more than enough books spelling this out in many steps, but I’m interested to see what others highlight as major “checkpoints.”

We’ll start with the highlights: we bailed him out of jail in Marfa on the way to our job site, his father “ foreman” passed out drunk in the driveway of our Airbnb at our home, his AC guy got arrested at the checkpoint, he shorted us on materials, work was subpar, he notarized his own subcontractors’ lien releases, which were forged, and diverted the money for the subs instead of paying them, resulting in us having to pay for sub work twice to get the liens released.

It's not crucial that you even hit those checkpoints necessarily, more that you practice being structured, and following that template to work through the house as efficiently as you can rather than just walking around each day looking at what to do next, and then tinkering around for weeks doing phases out of order without knowing.

Then break those down into action items or accountability checkpoints.

They will review the scope of work you want to do, they will review the licensing of the contractors involved and once they are satisfied that what is to be done is safe and within building codes, they will give permission for the project to start (they will "release the permit").At various checkpoints throughout the project, the local building inspector will verify that work is being done property and in accordance with building codes, and at the end of the project, he will do a final inspection.

I’m planning to focus on setting up each of the businesses monthly goals and establish checkpoints throughout the year to hold us all accountable.
