Go visit the areas, do your research, do not believe what is just in the materials presented by a company selling a product, check the crime reports for violent versus non-violent crime statistics,etc.When I look at investments I like to look at the dirt first then the asset and projected returns.

Although now I am trying to find the right way to study more, there must be statistic or so to study to have numbers make sense .For now focusing on BC or maybe NB , but I do not discard AB for sure, like many I looked into Calgary last year :) .I should reach out to know more about the inland market though , thank you Edit: sorry at mention do not seem to workHi Nicolas,As others said the first thing is to talk to a bank or mortgage broker (I recommend an investor focused mortgage broker) and find out how much you can borrow.

You will know exactly what is in each house, what the measurements are, etc. this means that if you have many you can have a standard depreciation schedule for them, it also means you can track statistics on repairs (a quote for a single home is completely applicable to any other property), how long appliances last, etc.

Is somebody on here adding up how many engineers invest in real estate and doing a statistical analysis on it, maybe with mean, average, median, standard deviations, a few transformations and differential equations and coming up with an answer on what percentage of RE Investors are engineers???!!!
