I can ask him to do the initial work (file a long form, contractor submitting floor plans, filing fees, etc.) but how would I know whether it will pass or not from the first time.

Downstairs: gutting and opening up the kitchen, adding a dishwasher, gutting and enlarging the main bathroom and gutting the 1/2 bath, enlarging the master bedroom closet, adding laminate floors and new paint.

Expanding on that: Can I separate some of the fix up costs like flooring, the new hot water heater, the new fridge, etc and make each of these separate assets for their own depreciation.

Hello everyone.My name is Mark Colburn and i'm a new member to BP.I bought my first property in Nov of 2011 and it was a multifamily side-by-side duplex.It was a bank owned property that we did an extensive renovation to including two new kitchens, two new bathrooms, new flooring, new paint, new water heaters, new vented bathrooms, tons of repairs to walls (was prior section 8) etc.All in all I spent about one year and $35K on the renovation.
