That was because some government program (possibly the Veterans Admin) didn't count prepaid rent as an asset when determining whether he was eligible for services, but cash in a bank account was counted.

This could be because they think it won't be that hard to get caught up, believe the bank will work with them to refinance etc, or are currently doing some sort of program that is a loan modification.

I find on smaller loans the national banks like Wells just do not have the best programs for small balance stuff.
