From my perspective, The only real difference is the 10% penalty.Taxes, may or may not really be a difference because you will either pay it now or when you retire.If you can make 2-3 more annually with real estate than in the market, the penalty will pay for itself after 3-4 years.The one thing you want to be aware of is if you are in a high bracket at the moment, then the distribution might be in an aoverall high tax rate.The potentially good thing is that it seems like you are overseas so you may potentially escape state taxes.Also, be mindful of potential tax implications of the country you are currently a resident in.
