I'd learn about personal finances: save up money if you have a part-time job, don't buy dumb things (e.g expensive clothes, etc). 

Basically, if they wanted to set up an air mattress and bring a bag with clothes, toiletries, etc that is fine but not setting up as a permanent residence.The advantage to this is that you never have to worry about having to evict them if they don't leave.

The closets were full of men and women’s clothes, and there was a perfectly functioning pool in the backyard. 

The wiring inside that BX shielding may have deteriorating cloth insulation and the size of the electrical service might be 60 or 100 amps and insufficient for a modern house. 

Then again I'm also good with reasonably run HOAs to shield me from having to witness Nana's bloomers swinging on a clothes line, a giant RV or a driveway full of cars up on cinderblocks. :)

Once you start looking there are a million ways from selling used brand-name clothing to a coffee shop trailer outside events or helping local plumbers with AI.

This is NOT a bash on religion, but in Matthew 7:15, Jesus says "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves."

Apart from going there on a yoga retreat, how long would you stay there?
