Long story short, I was in Guatemala this past fall and a transportation mix-up put me on a shuttle from Tikal to Flores with a lovely family from the Hartford, CT area.

Now Intel just as we all know is melting down ( Sorry Columbus Ohio)  And she is now at Alterra and moved up the corporate ladder ( way up) But back to working pretty long hours and having to commute to silicon Valley from PDX and they dont have the Intel shuttle anymore.. ( for those that dont know what that is Intel had their own airline )  it Flew out of HIllsboro so you just showed up a few minutes before the flight hopped on and off to San Jose you went.. could do meetings in one day and be home for dinner.

With mid-term rentals if your average guest stay is 30 days or less but you provide substantial personal services (daily maid service, meals, shuttles etc, more like a hotel) then it would be non-passive...but you'd also pay self employment tax on any income as well.

The reason for me "quitting" my job to pursue something else would be to get me a bit more leeway with shuttling kids and being more active in their needs as they grow up... the wife calls it a "manny" job...

This last market boom, where besides "affordable" housing, people were protesting Google shuttles (one character even had a Google bus piñata, and proceeded to smash it during a protest), I knew things were changing.
