It's possible there was a skunk spray which was lighter (and not strong enough to be noticeable on both floors) down there but this time something died and created a much stronger smell that everyone smells.All the incidents happened when the heat was running high on the 2nd floor and I knew that the water in the bathroom by the furnace in the attic was shut off, so I figured it was either a dry p-trap getting sucked in or something funky in the air ducts.

If it is - then an exclusion is only available if you sell the rest of the property within 2 years.Sounds like just sale it all and and pay the gains.It’s how it is but it’s sad in this country I have owned the bulk of this land over 20 years,brush hogging,fence building,spraying,etc.I have never once saw the us gov out there but they think they deserve a bit of it.We are being rapped by our government while they pad there pockets in every imaginable way.
